I'm torn between a 2 and 3 star review here. The sushi is really not that great and I've found myself questioning the quality of the fish a few times in my spicy tuna roll - you KNOW the feeling you get when you're suddenly not so sure how you feel about that spicy tuna roll, we all do - this is never a good thing. Ever. They have decent lunch deals, but their dinner prices are a bit high for what I think it's worth. The interior is nice and I have no complaints with the service. When there are concerts at Family Circle this place gets nutso and getting there earlier is always the better idea. Overall Wasabi is alright. It's convenient for lunch on DI and the prices are good for lunch - dinner is another story.

Love their sushi rolls and cocktails. Also, you must try their spicy shrimp pad Thai. All around great sushi place. Great lunch prices, dinner is a little on the expensive side. If you like spicy, then do the Hanami Roll. The SCAM Roll is also delicious. Good service, good food. Try it out!

Had lunch here today. Had the DI Roll it was interesting. Service was a bit slow but overall a nice place.

Great food, service and atmosphere. They have thai, hibachi, sushi and chineese. Very diverse selection but everyrhing is good. Great atmosphere and a good happy hour scene at the bar with live music sometimes.

Exceptional sushi selection coupled with fast service. I got salmon and tuna sashimi with two Maki Rolls. Be sure to request fresh Wasabi, it is way better than the regular stuff you are used to.

We went for lunch on a Friday. We got the Red Dragon, SC Crunch, Diablo and Niminobi. We were hungry. The sushi was very pretty, however the presentation was a retangular white plate. No pretty garnish, nothing. The rolls were expensive which is okay if the sushi is outstanding. It wasn't. The sushi lacked the flavor of fresh fish. The only flavor we could detect was that of the sauce and/or the topping on the sushi. Neither of us could tell with our eyes closed what we were tasting, fish or filler. It was passable sushi, but I expected great. My real issue was the service. After finishing our $62.00 lunch, (including two draft beers), we sat for 10 minutes staring at empty, dirty dishes. No one came to take them. We finally had to wave someone down to ask for our check. I expected better.

This is the perfect $10 lunch. I really enjoyed the sushi combo and the restaurant space is quite nice. It's great to have solid lunch options like this on the island. The lunch menu is the best deal, but the regular menu is impressive as well. Lovely atmosphere and service.

Great job Daniel Island and Wasabi! Partnership made in heaven. We so needed something like this on DI. I've been three times and wasn't all that impressed the first time but have loved both times since. I think they upgraded their menu, added some clutch items (like hibachi!) and have overall worked out the kinks. Wednesday night is Ladies night... half price wine. Can't beat that with a stick. Rock shrimp app is delicious. Definitely try this if you're in the DI area. For lunch or dinner!

I love Wasabi. I recommend the Daniel Island roll and the rock shrimp tempura roll. Also, the kids bento box meal is refreshing-not your usual fried chicken fingers fare. Instead the meal consists of fresh vegetables, rice and baked chicken. Ice cream for dessert. Very pretty restaurant with a great atmosphere.

Beautiful inside, the food was good but too pricey for what it was, and the waiter did nothing to quiet a group of girls sitting right next to us shrieking the entire time. Service was slow as well for a rather slow night (not many guests when we were there). Happy hour menu is terrible (we didn't go during happy hour, just glanced at the menu to see if this is a place we would frequent). Overall, average because of slow service, noise for a so-called classy restaurant and price.

Great service, great drinks, great happy hour specials. I wish they had a little more food options besides sushi.

GOT OVERCHARGED ON PURPOSE BY THE MANAGER!!! Only got $2 back not what the receipt said I should get! Ordered some sushi to go. I totally understand rounding of change, but you should round in favor of the guest and not the other way around. Basically I got overcharged is what it comes down to. It's only a few cents, but it's the principle of the thing. For this reason, I do not recommend this place because the customer should always come first, clearly here, it's the other way around. This comes from someone who tours around the country and sees many places where the customer comes first. Make sure you count your change and make sure you get charged for only what you ordered!

Dining room was well appointed. Wait staff was excellent. They made great recommendations for wine and the service was outstanding! Sushi was fresh and tasty! Looked like it was ready for a photo shoot. They have a nice bar and outside seating area.

Went here with a rather large group. Was put in a separate dining room which was great. This is not one of those japanese places that do the show. But they did have a varied menu. There were about 11 of us. Appetizers we tried were the calamari (just ok, a bit soggy), and the fried dumplings (very good). As an entree, most orderd the hibachi. Several had over cooked steaks (ordered MR received medium to med well). The shrimp was well cooked and flavorful. The vegetables were excellent, and the fried rice was very good. The salads were also very good as well as the soup. One person had the Red chicken curry and that was very good as well. Waitress was attentive and checks were pretty good, only mix up was with who paid for what appetizer. Biggest disappointment was I tried to pay with a VISA rewards/gift card and that that was declined even though I had just activated it.

Wasabi falls in line with many of the Japanese restaurants in the Charleston area. Americanized Sushi, Hibachi entrees, and now some Thai Entrees as well. I believe I have only ever been here for lunch, which is actually a pretty good deal for the many folks that work out on Daniel Island. My pad thai was tasty, the only detractors were on the slow and inattentive service and a sushi selection did not really appeal to me. However, I was happy with my pad thai and will certainly be back next time I'm nearby.

Johnny Dreams of Sushi... I know a bit about sushi, and this place is 5 star as far as I am concerned. The dishes are inventive, but all the staples are present too. Sea urchin and toro rarities are often on the menu as well. The bar is well stocked and usually flanked by live music when the weather is nice. The restrooms are clean - that's important to me. The manager is very friendly and makes sure you feel welcomed. I dine or take out twice each week. One thing definitely worth mentioning is they have REAL wasabi, but you have to ask for it... Turns out, all that wasabi you had before was akin to imitation crabmeat. The real thing has a far more complex flavor that compliments the sashimi in ways I cannot articulate.

My favorite place for pad thai. More important they have a great cocktail hour. $2 beers and when the weather is nice a great inside/outside bar. Staff is great and mgr John always stops and says hello. They do a great job with social marketing so sign up on their facebook page for upcoming specials and deals. This place is worth the trip to Daniel Island great relaxed atmosphere. Oh and if you are looking for an inexpensive lunch place this fits the bill. I believe it's an $8.88 bento lunch box

I can't say enough about this place. The food is delicious but the staff is wonderful. I visit my niece about ever 3 months. We either dine in or take home. Either way this place seems to care for you. We have a 6, 5 and two year that are treated super well and are remembered, no matter how much soy sauce gets dripped. The atmosphere is casual, nice jeans and shirt and some diners dress up.

Favorite lunch spot in DI... Lunch special for $10? Yes please. By far The best pad Thai I have had in CHS. Great for a few drinks after work too.. Sir around the bar & drink your day away

I went there last night. I got a Thai entree called Sweet & Sour Fish. It was delicious although expensive @ $18. I definitely recommend it however. The restaurant itself is really cool and has a great ambiance.

We had dinner there tonight. We were a party of 8. They sat is immediately and the staff was very nice. I was disappointed that the hibachi was served, and not prepared at the table. They brought one incorrect appetizer, removed it and returned with the guests correct appetizer after salads and soups had been prepared. They brought a soup and salad to one person whose meal did not include either. Then they brought me a bourbon, placed it on the table. I told the server it was not mine so she took it away and delivered it to the table beside us. Nice staff, but they do not seem to have the serving part down yet. The food was delicious. Everyone enjoyed their meals, but most agreed that Yamoto's is still a better choice.

I tried Wasabi for lunch today and had a overall good experience. The lunch menu is priced right. I ordered a soup for $1.50 and the bento box for $8.88. A few other prices I noticed...lunch sodas are $1.50 and lettuce wraps are $8. The bento box was a large amount of food, mine came with rice, tempura veggies, cantaloupe and I got the California roll. I wish there were more roll options. The California roll was not very good but they really never are. My lunch buddy said that the spicy tuna was extra spicy. So overall the bento box was just okay. The service was fast and the ambience was nice. I think I will make this a staple.

Great place to get really good sushi outside of downtown. I have been to Wasabi D.I. a few times now and have always been pleased. They have a nice bar area (inside or out) to have a few drinks in. I have tried about half of their sushi menu and it's always been fresh and delicious. I normally order spicy rolls when I eat sushi and most restaurant's spicy rolls aren't that hot. Wasabi's spicy rolls actually have some heat to them. If I were going to say anything negative about my experiences at Wasabi's, it would be that one of our servers seemed to be more engaged with another table and he forgot our appetizer. However, he made up for it by bringing it out towards the end of our meal without charging us for it. For it being an above average sushi joint on Daniel Island, I actually thought the prices were very reasonable, despite other Yelper's opinions.

If you're in a hurry and want to do a quick lunch, don't go to Wasabi and sit outside. Inside service always seems to be quick and delicious. Sitting outside though is another story. I've say outside twice (today being the second and last time ever). Waited 55 minutes for our food (myself and one other person). At about the 45 minute marker our server, Michael, came by and asked what drinks we had - with no apology for the wait. When he brought back our refills I asked how long it was going to be because we'd been waiting nearly an hour. He just shrugged his shoulders and said very sarcastically "sorry." We had to ask for the check before our food arrived because we were going to have to scarf our food down and immediately leave to get back to work because we were late before we'd even started eating! Lesson learned, never again. Food was good, but not worth the wait.

We generally stop by for lunch as they have some great lunch menu items and their dinner menu is pricey and it feels a bit formal for kids. Their lunch time steak bowl is incredibly good. One lunch time tip, I'd ask for double salad instead of soup and salad because their salad is super tasty but their miso soup is the worst I have ever had :/

While I love Wasabi's sushi, and the atmosphere of the restaurant, I was very disappointed with my last visit. We went on a Friday for a co-workers birthday. There was about 12-14 of us (so a larger party) but service was awful. We ordered off the lunch menu which comes with soup/salad. None of our plates were cleared by the time our lunch entrees were served. We stacked plates to make room but still the staff only cleared a few. Entree's came out lukewarm at best. Drinks never got refilled. Of course with work related functions everyone paid separately. Apparently the waitress wasn't prepared for this... Needless to say, paying took forever as well! Sadly, it will be some time before I return for lunch or with a group!

First , I was stoked they had good wine and beer selection. Sat at the bar, which was fairly busy even though we missed happy hour. I got small plate beef wrapped asparagus, fantastic. Husband got hibachi filet, a little spendy, but good. Not awesome. Will definitely go back to explore the menu and check out the sushi.

This is a beautiful restaurant with great food. I was impressed with the sushi selection and size of the pieces. Each piece of sushi "hung" over the rice- Awesome. The only it was missing was a little wasabi between the fish and rice. I ordered a sushi Bento box and for under $10 it included shrimp, tuna, salmon, yellowtail and a spicy tuna roll. No California roll for "filler", thank God. I highly recommend, especially is you want to enjoy a great meal in a beautiful atmosphere.

Went here last night for dinner. The hostess was extremely rude and did not greet or smile once. When walking out the door, we had to say "good night" while she just looked at us. (Again with no smile) Our server was friendly but seemed like she was a little frazzled. We ordered sushi and 40 minutes passed until she came over and said the sushi guys were backed up and it would take another 10 minutes. (Not sure if she just forgot to ring it in) Another 30 minutes passed and our sushi was brought out. It looked like they just threw it together and it fell apart that we were unable to use our chop sticks. Once we paid, the server dropped it off and rushed away while saying have a good night. It was unfortunately a $90 meal that was totally not worth it.

LOVE this place!!! Especially their HH (happy hour)! Likes: $4 large house hot sake, friendly male staff, great HH food choices, fresh food, cleanses, atmosphere, setting, seating choices and overall politeness! Dislikes: Recent experience with an unpleasant female bartender/bar-back. I just thought she wasn't polite and didn't even offer me a HH menu, instead a regular menu. I had to ask for it nicely. Chopsticks are my favvv!

If there were a support group for addiction to the Asian Tartare appetizer at this place I would need to get involved. Although I'm stuck on my favorites (Asian Tartare, Garlic Sprouts & the Scallop with Lotus Chips), I've never been disappointed when sneaking a bite from a friend's plate whether it's sushi, hibachi, thai or anything else for that matter. I feel like Wasabi DI offers a more intimate relaxing atmosphere then downtown which makes it perfect for date night or catching up with a friend. I'd definitely recommend Happy Hour at the bar, super awesome food specials make it a perfect opportunity for a snack smorgasbord. My last demand, save room for dessert!

While the atmosphere was fantastic and the service OK, the food just wasn't there. While ordering lunch, I asked the server about the portion sizes of the different meals and was told that they provided large portions at lunch. I ordered the twice cooked chicken which was advertised as spicy. When I asked to replace the mixed vegetables with steamed rice, I was told there would be an extra $1.50 charge. This is something I had not experienced before in the many Asian restaurants I've been too and was taken aback that something as cheap as rice, replacing much more expensive vegetables would actually incur a charge. The salad that came with the meal was large and tasted really good. But when the meal came out, it only had 6-7 pieces of chicken and wasn't even spicy as advertised. My friend who got a Chicken Bowl for much less, actually had more chicken in his. One tip, if you are like me and can't handle chopsticks, make sure to ask for a fork ahead of time or your food will mock you as you just stare at it waiting hungrily for the server to return.

meh~ this place is really popular with my colleagues at Blackbaud but I've kinda been less than impressed to be honest. Good deals on the lunch menu but I prefer to find something more delicious to eat. That being said, I need to give their sushi a shot - maybe I'll bump a star up after

Hands down best sushi I've had in Charleston. I went to Wasabi DI this past Saturday and had such a wonderful waiter, who made great recommendations and was very attentive. All the rolls were amazing -- Diablo roll was them my favorite, and the atmosphere with live music was great too. Will like to go back and try their lunch specials soon!

We're not huge sushi fans but occasionally enjoy it so we decided to give Wasabi a try. It's a comfortable , nicely decorated place and the staff was friendly and attentive. We tried the Edamame as an appetizer, California rolls and the seafood dynamite. All were typically small sushi sized portions but filling. All that and 2 draft beers with nice tip = $48. It was OK - if you're really into sushi you'd probably enjoy it more than we did.

$8.88 Bento lunch special!! Served with Miso soup, salad, fresh fruit, spicy tuna roll (or whatever roll you choose) w/6 pieces, plain fried rice, and veggie tempura! Very good sushi, great salad, tempura was amazing (especially the sweet potato and carrot) and the fried rice was the best! The waiter was great...super friendly! I planned to go back before leaving Daniel Island but they were closed after lunch and before dinner for a few hours so I didn't get to try other menu items.

Been here a few times for lunch. The food is really good that's what keeps me coming back. The hostess is the problem...when I am on my lunch break I don't have time to stand around and wait for someone to seat me. My first visit we sat at the bar because we stood in the lobby for at least 10 mins waiting to be seated. We barely got any service at the bar I don't think they have a bartender during lunch. Lunch specials are great deals!

  • Lee K.

Most of our meal was delicious including the miso soup, tempura vegetables, rice, and fruit for less than ten bucks. Not too impressed with the dry chicken. The beer was cold and the service was a little on the slow side by our server. The food runner ended up bringing us a majority of the things we needed.

Rec stay away. My hungry wife and I entered at 10Pm hoping to quench our thirst and satisfy our hunger . Both denied. And those jerks wouldn't call us a cab. That's what you get on Daniel Island: 0/3. Good luck searching elsewhere .

Be prepared as service can be very slow here. Consider sitting at the bar during lunch as the service here seems to be a little quicker. Oh, and get the Pad Thai, it's delicious!

I love this place - some of their rolls are alright, but most of the ones I've had have been very good. My boyfriend and I always pick wasabi as our first option for sushi because its the best sushi we have found at the most affordable price!!

  • Good For The Palate R.

I dined outside here with a group of friends during a slow, weekday happy hour. Mostly they are locals and said this is the better of the Wasabi Restaurants in the Charleston area. The menu is pretty overwhelming here. Lot's of offerings so you have to plod through and narrow your focus. It was pricier than I was expecting for happy hour outside the downtown area. Even the rolls on the happy hour menu were $7-8. The drink prices seemed reasonable. Lot's of fried items. Nothing was bad to eat, and the pad thai (for americanized pad thai) was pretty good. I wouldn't return, mostly because it's just not worth the money. But the service was also pretty bad. We waited a long time for our food, they didn't know who ordered anything so they auctioned it off, leaving some people without any dishes. They forgot food. My friend ordered a roll off the menu that was supposed to be and eel roll and it came sans eel (only cucumber). Instead of insisting on bringing another roll they offered to bring eel out. I thought that was chincy but he didn't seem to mind. The server also poured water into an unfinished martini. When she realized it she apologized but didn't offer a new drink or a refill. She also offered to split the check, which we didn't request, but made mistakes there and added items to the bill that were never ordered. Overall not a great experience but the food wasn't bad.

I go there about once a week.....great food and service. Every Monday night they offer a 20% off discount to all hospital employees as well as firemen and police officers. It's nice to be appreciated.

Sigh, the disclaimer: I have eaten some of the best sushi in the world. That would probably account for baseline. I've eaten sushi in Japan right outside of the world-famous Tsukiji fish market, as well as from chefs that have had decades of training. (Yes, I'm beginning to sound elitist). But here's the deal. I like to call places like Wasabi imitation Japanese. It's not Japanese in my mind. Whether it's owned by a Japanese person, I don't know, but if I were the owner, I would not let the people standing at the sushi counter actually be visible. When I looked, I knew that we were making an egregious error. (Yes, more elitist sounding fanfare). I'm being hard on Wasabi right now. If you lived in South Carolina with very little access to true Japanese, by all means Wasabi is your place. They offer a diverse menu and a lot of choices. BUT... if you ever go somewhere known for their Japanese, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE try it. You will understand. We ordered the edamame (fine), the mussels (yeah.. no), and a few rolls including eel, shrimp and the Daniel Island roll. My mom didn't want to eat anything (she has a similar baseline as me), my dad is not picky at all, ate a lot of the meal. I'm not really picky, I ate it, but I was in the neutral-zone. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good either. So, I apologize, but I pride myself in being honest in how I felt about the food, ambiance and service. So: Ambiance - 4 stars (nice looking restaurant) Food - 2 stars (edible, but not exactly tasty) Service - 3 stars (very slow for an empty restaurant) Because the ambiance and service ranked higher - Wasabi gets 3-stars from me.

My husband took me out to eat here a week ago and it was fantastic. The decor is much what you would find in New York or Miami - lots of white fabric seating and cool lighting and this bar is next to a wall that completely opens up to an outdoor terrace. My husband had a specialty type beer and I ordered a Green Tea Mojito. It was soooo goooood! It even had a stalk of sugar cane in it as garnish. (I asked the waiter if it was edible and he was so incredibly helpful that he checked with the bartender because he wasn't sure. FYI you can chew/suck on it, just don't eat it.) I think I had two of these during dinner. To start they give you steaming hot towels to cleanse your hands before you begin eating. I love this little, simple luxury. We shared a dish of edamame and it came in a really cute edamame bowl and cover that can be used to discard the empty shells. We ordered various type of sushi and sashimi and it was all so very good. (My husband loved some Kobe beef roll, that I wasn't so keen on, but besides that we loved everything.) The waiter was super attentive (but not in an annoying sort of way), the food was stellar, the decor was fun and modern, and the restrooms were nice and clean and modern. I didn't want to leave when dinner was over - I wanted to stay at the bar for more drinks, but we had plans to meet other people somewhere else after dinner. I can't wait to go back! P.S. I've been to the Wasabi downtown and I am NOT a fan of this particular location. It has more of a "bar" atmosphere with a ton of TVs tuned into sports channels. It's not what I'm looking for when I go to eat sushi. Wasabi on Daniel Island is exactly what I'm looking for in a sushi restaurant. I have not been to Wasabi Summerville.

We dined here for the first time the other night. The food was pretty good, although the portion sizes were on the small side and the prices a bit on the high side. The service was sloooooooow. When we arrived, we were greeted promptly and asked the gentleman who greeted us for a table. He said that the lady behind him would take care of us and walked off. She stood there for a bit before asking if he was helping us; we told her that he said she would, and we finally got a table. (No real problem here, just a slight lack of communication.) It took awhile for our server to come take our drink order, but he got there eventually. When we eat Japanese, we usually order edamame as an appetizer, but I think $4.50 is more than we've ever spent on an order of edamame (including when we lived in San Diego, where EVERYTHING is expensive), so we skipped it this time. My husband and I each ordered a miso soup and two sushi rolls. The miso took awhile to come out and the taste was about average, but the bowl was TINY. It took a pretty long time for our sushi to come out, and we were getting quite hungry while we waited for it. When it finally arrived, our server noticed that one of my rolls hadn't been prepared correctly, so he took it back to the sushi bar to get it fixed. No big deal ... it happens. After several minutes had passed though, he came back to inform us that the sushi chefs were working on a large order and mine was behind that one. This definitely annoyed me. I've worked in the restaurant industry ... when an order gets screwed up, fixing that order should be the priority. I had to wait entirely too long to get that second roll. I thought about asking for a manager, but I really just wanted to try to enjoy our evening out as much as possible and didn't really want to sit there and stew. When we were done eating we ordered the chocolate cake for dessert, and I feel like the evening improved from there. The cake was delicious (another small portion, but it was so rich that it didn't really matter), and honestly, it was the deciding factor between a two-star and three-star review. All in all, I would say: Food: 4 Portions: 3 Price: 2.5 Service: 2

My husband and I had dinner at Wasabi a few weeks ago and we were pleasantly surprised. We had the rock shrimp tempura and the ahi tuna tacos, which were recommended to us by the waitress. The shrimp was good but we LOVED the tacos! We also tried the shisito peppers- which we didn't like at all. As for sushi rolls, we tried the Daniel Island roll and the Seafood Dynamite. Both were great! The decor is great, contemporary and upscale without being stuffy. The staff is attentive and courteous. We went on a Wednesday night and we didn't have to wait for a table. Wednesday night is also ladies night, they offer half price bottles of wine! Overall, a great little sushi place on Daniel Island!

I LOVE THIS PLACE. I'm perplexted that they've called it a steakhouse though, this is not a hibachi grill kind of place. I would not reccomend taking your 3 children there for a chicken and fried rice dinner and a show... you won't find it. The bartender gave me the scoop...The Wasabi family consists of: 1. The Summerville location- catering to family dining, slightly less formal, I think they do more hibachi 2. The downtown location (off of the market)- catering to the young crowd- more of a bar/club scene 3. The newest, Daniel Island location- upscale Japanese cuisine for grown-ups (fine dining- sort of- AND chic bar scene) The menu has a large selection of small plates and appetizers, AMAZING sushi and then some nicer Japanese fusion entrees. ($20-$30) I've been eating sushi in Charleston for 5+ years. I've always loved the Wasabi downtown, I frequent the Tsunami in Mt. P, enjoy the Yamata at Seaside farms, (do not care for the Oriental Garden) and I can honestly say this is the best. They have a fantastic happy hour with a martini menu and half off most apps and a selection of sushi rolls. Again, the sushi is AMAZING!!!! You can order from the full sushi menu at the bar which is usually buzzing with youngish professionals. (Blackbaud, BF.com , etc.) The decor is really great- very comtemporary/chic. A great addition to Daniel Island!!! (oh and I've heard lunch is great too but haven't been myself. Binto boxes and other affordable specials.)

Wasabi DI has some really good sushi. The lunch options are fairly reasonably priced. I normally opt for the sushi lunch which comes with a decent miso soup, a great salad ( I *love* the dressing), 4 pieces of nigiri and a roll. For a while it even included a drink although that has been changed. I have also been there for dinner and had a few specialty rolls. The Scam roll and the SC Crunch roll are really good. The service has always been good. Recommended.

I love Wasabi. I could do sushi every day and this is a great spot. Lunch is a great deal. The decor is modern and sophisticated and very inviting. The wait staff can be hit or miss. The food makes up for the sometimes slow service. I also love that I can order off menu. My favorite roll isn't on this menu, but they'll make it anyway.

We came here for lunch. I was quite impressed with the extensive selections. I didn't know sushi was big down south. They had everything like maki, sashimi, udon, rice plates, etc. Prices are not bad for sushi. Their bar is also very nice. I'd love to come here for dinner next time...or maybe even happy hour.
